Summer Hair Tips
Summer doesn’t have to be the season of bad hair days. With a little TLC, our hair can still look great even on the most humid of days. Let’s consider some hot-weather tress-taming tips:
Hair that is NOT colored can still suffer from sun-induced stress. The sun’s UV rays dry out our hair and rough up the normally smooth cuticle, or outer layer, of the hair shaft. Because of this, it is just as important to protect our hair strands as it is to protect our skin.
Make a daily habit of applying a hair care product that contains crodasorb to protect hair from sun damage and to help keep color-processed hair from fading. If we are going to spend a lot of time outdoors, we should consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat. Not only will it keep our strands from getting scorched, it will also protect our scalp.
Hot summer days typically lead to our time near some type of body of water. Whether we spend our days sitting pool side or with our toes in the sand, our hair is still susceptible to damage. Chlorine strips our hair of its natural protective oils while the heavy salt content in seawater draws water out resulting in parched hair.
By applying a leave-in conditioner to our hair before enjoying hot summer days, our hair won't absorb as much saltwater or pool chemicals. Also, using a purifying, or clarifying, shampoo once a week will help clear away product buildup, saltwater and chlorine off our tresses. Just be sure to follow with a deep-conditioning treatment as our hair is still being exposed to hot temps during the summer months.
At least once or twice a week, we should give our hair a break from blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons. The heat from hot tools, plus the hot temps, can dry our hair out.
Now, although not all summer days are steamy, our hair is the first to feel the effects of humidity. When our hair is wet, it soaks up the extra humidity in the air, causing the hair shaft to swell, leading to breaks in the cuticle. Hair puffs up and goes every which way but the way that we would like, smooth. A drop or two of Rejuveniqe Oil can help smooth hair and add shine.
But, let's face it: When the air is so thick with humidity it feels like molasses and frizz is going to happen. We don't have to waste our summer trying to fight frizz. Instead, let’s try and find an easy go-to hairdo like a slick pony, high bun, or side braid for those high-humidity days.
